Good Morning Summer Camp Families,
We are less than 1 day away from the start of Summer Camp 2020!
We wanted to provide communication to all families, including those that are attending, those that are still on the fence and even to those who have cancelled their camp registrations.
Our goal is to effectively communicate the best practices we have put in place to ensure a safe summer at Westbroro Tennis & Swim by BSC. There are elements of this document that are still a work in progress and will continue to evolve as we receive more information. In providing you with our current framework for the summer, we hope you see our path to a safe and healthy camp season!
We are all in this together, we ask that you follow our guidance and general knowledge so we can all be healthy and happy together.
- Be patient. This summer will be unlike any other. As we learn new information, we will communicate to you any changes in our guidelines and protocols.
- Do not lose sight of what is most important. Your camper(s) will enjoy the outdoors, take part in their favorite activities and reconnect with new and old camp friends.
WHAT TO BRING TO CAMP EACH DAY:
- At least 1 bathing suit (2 would be recommended as we plan to swim twice per day).
*Please have camper(s) arrive in bathing suit as we will be swimming first each day (weather
- A towel.
- Sunscreen (Counselors will not be able to put lotion on campers so please bring SPF Spray).
- Goggles and Floatation Device; if needed.
- 2 Name-labeled facemasks.
* We will enforce the wearing of face masks by parents/guardians when on the premises and
at all times during drop-off and pick-up.
- Labeled Water Bottle (We will provide water in coolers each day).
- 2 Snacks, Lunch and Drink (Please include utensils).
- Personal Tennis Racket (You can purchase a tennis racket at 20% off if desired).
*NOTE: Please DO NOT bring any personal items such as an ipad, video game console or cell phone.
DROP OFF AND PICK UP
- Early Care (730am-9am) and Late Care (4pm-6pm) will be available each day. Parents/Guardians should inform Camp Director/Staff of their need for late care at drop off each morning. We will charge those who utilize this at the end of each week.
- ALL Drop offs will happen at the Kids Club at 35 Oak Street. Please follow the directions of the staff in order to properly drop off your camper(s). We will be having everyone drive around the building and then form a line so that camper(s) can be screened quickly and efficiently and then parents/guardians can be on their way.
- At Drop Off, parents will be asked the following 4 questions and then their child(ren) will be asked to complete a non-contact temperature check:
- In the last 72 hours has our child experienced a fever, chills or loss of taste or smell?
- Does your camper have any respiratory symptoms, cough shortness of breath or difficulty breathing?
- Has your camper traveled internationally over the last 14 days?
- Has your camper been in contact with an individual who has tested positive for Covid-19?
*NOTE: If you answer YES to any of the 4 questions above or score over a 100.4 temperature, your camper will not be allowed to attend camp and a follow up will occur.
4.) Half Day pick up will be conducted in the main parking nearest outdoor tennis courts 6 and 7 (near the outdoor pool).
5.) All pick ups will require the parent/guardian to provide an ID in order for the camper to leave.
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION
- A COVID-19 Exposure plan has been reviewed with all Staff and is available upon request.
- Daily cleaning schedule has been implemented.
- We will be providing parents with information on COVID-19 including symptoms, transmission, prevention, and when to seek medical attention. We also encourage parents/guardians to share the information with their children as appropriate.
- If your camper has been experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or has been recently exposed, we ask that you notify us immediately.
- We will prepare all cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting solutions and identify a safe place for storage that is accessible to staff in each area of the program, but out of reach of children. We will ensure that supplies for hand hygiene are adequate and placed appropriately throughout the program spaces, including in all group transition. Hand hygiene stations will be set up at the entrance of the premises.
- We have a system to monitor absenteeism to identify any trends in employee or child absences due to illness, as this might indicate the spread of COVID-19 or other illness.
- Group sizes must be restricted to a maximum of 10 children and siblings will be placed in the same group as long as there is not a 3-year age difference.
- Camp enrollment must be based on the number of individuals that may be housed in an
emergency. Emergency shelter occupancy shall provide 30 sq. ft per individual in order to ensure room and enforce 6-ft separation between individuals.
- We will organize camp into the smallest practical group sizes and to the extent possible keep groups consistent throughout the camp program.
We will maintain consistent counselor assignments for groups aka as “households”. Campers and counselors will be placed into “households” that eat, wash, and do most group activities together.
- If groups must mix, we will consider other mitigation methods such as outdoor activities, increased ventilation in buildings, physical distancing between groups, or the use of facemasks. Note that group size must still comply with state and/or local requirements. Proper staff to camper ratios and minimum staffing requirements must be maintained.
- Daily Screening and Self Screening Prior to camp: Programs must screen all staff and children before they are permitted to enter following the requirements below:
- We will designate specific staff member to conduct all screening activities and thermometer checks and establish a designated screening area that will allow for more privacy in order to ask questions confidentially and conduct a temperature check.
- We will establish a single point of entry to the program to ensure that no individual is allowed to enter the building until they successfully passed the health screening.
- Parents and staff must sign written attestations daily regarding any household contacts with COVID-19 symptoms.
- Individuals who decline to complete the screening questionnaire or have temperature checked will not be permitted to enter.
- A designated separate space will be used to isolate children/staff who may become sick.
- We will store children’s belongings in a manner where they do not touch. Individually labeled storage containers, cubbies, or separate designated areas will be used.
- We will be using increased staffing to accommodate the rigorous cleaning requirements.
- When to Wash or Disinfect Hands – Campers and General Staff:
- Before eating food (e.g., when entering the dining area).
- After being in contact with someone who may have been sick.
- After touching frequently touched surface (railings, doorknobs, counters, etc.).
- After using the restroom.
- After using common items, such as sports equipment, craft supplies, etc.
- After coughing, sneezing, or blowing your nose.
- We will post visual steps of appropriate hand washing to assist children or cue them to sing the “Happy Birthday” song TWICE (approx. 20 seconds) as the length of time they need to wash their hands.

- Sports and Activities
- We will limit shared high-touch equipment and designate equipment to campers or groups, if feasible, for the duration of camp.
- All outdoor and indoor equipment/facilities will be routinely cleaned in accordance to state guidelines.
- All shared equipment will be cleaned immediately after each use or session. Cleaning and disinfection at the end of each day will also be conducted on all sports equipment.
- ) Aquatics
- The novel coronavirus is not waterborne. There is no current evidence that COVID-19 can be spread to people through the water in a pool or water play areas. Proper operation and maintenance (including disinfection with chlorine or bromine) of these facilities will likely inactivate the virus in the water.
- Campers/Staff will not be required to wear a facemask while in the water.
11.) Snack and Lunch Time
- Campers/Staff will not attend meals if they are sick or experiencing flu-like symptoms.
- Campers/Staff will wash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol upon entry to the dining area.
- Campers/Staff will void touching frequently touched surfaces such as handles, doorknobs, tables, and counters as much as possible.
- Campers/Staff will maintain physical distance and increased spacing between self and others whenever possible.
- Campers/Staff will sit with or near the same individuals each meal and/or in the same seat as
much as possible.
- If the option is available, we will eat outside or in areas with less people.
- Campers/Staff will cover cough or sneeze with good etiquette. If a tissue or napkin is used, we will throw it away, and wash hands immediately.
- Campers/Staff will avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth as much as possible.
- Campers/Staff will use utensils rather than hands to eat as much as possible.
The following protocols must continue in future phases, per CDC guidance:
- Promoting healthy hygiene practices.
- Intensifying cleaning, disinfection, and ventilation.
- Limiting sharing.
- Checking for signs and symptoms.
- Planning for when a staff member, child, or visitor becomes sick.
- Maintaining healthy operations.
